Hi everyone, just to let you know there is a free fun activity session for children aged 8 -16 years at Ludlow Leisure Centre on Wednesdays 3.45 - 4.45pm, please come along!
Try other salad vegetables – grated carrot and chopped celery work well, too.

Fold opposite edges of the wrap, to keep the filling in, then roll up and cut in half.
Salmon and salad bagel
Bagels are popular with kids so this is a good way to introduce some fish into your child's lunchbox. This would work well with a handful of grapes and a plain rice cake.
Ingredients
1 wholemeal bagel
Small can (105g) or half a large can of pink salmon
1 level tbsp reduced-calorie mayonnaise
Large pinch of black pepper
4 slices of cucumber
Small wedge of lettuce, to give 2 tbsp when shredded

The change4life app used to be a great way of scanning the bar codes on food and seeing clearly the sugar content.
The App has been updated and now measures Fat and Salt by scanning the food's barcode.
Download it from your app store and give it a go!
Our kids are eating too much...
Sugar
Kids are having nearly three times more sugar than the recommended
School Nurse Support Workers braved the rain and cold to complete their first Geocache Trail this morning.
We have been looking for ideas to get young people interested in being active and when we found out about the Geocahe Trails in our area (www.Geocaching.com) we decided to give it a go.
We chose Shrewsbury's trail 'The Bridges Over the Severn' We had to go from bridge to bridge as directed and find numeric answers to questions. At the end these numbers formed a map reference which we put into google maps and followed. After a little bit of head scratching we found the Cache!!! We were very excited and added a message to the log book. We clocked up 8000 steps doing this walk - the surfaces were flat, enabling anyone to give it a go! We plan to do this trail as part of a Fit Families Group walk in a few weeks time - Keep your eyes peeled for time and date Soon!
Some research has just been released stating that many children are having their day's sugar allowance just in their breakfast alone!
This is shocking as many of the things we eat we believe to be healthy - especially if they have a 'Green banner' on the box or states 'low fat/calorie' . the truth is that many of these foods have been sweetened with sugar.
We would like to come up with a selection of quick and easy breakfast ideas which are a healthy alternative to reduce the amoubt of sugar we eat.
If you have any ideas please share them on this blog with us.

I have just finished doing the 6 months of Fit Families. I have found it helpful and it has made more aware of what i'm eating and how much sugar, fat and salt are in different types of food. The programme has made more active especially with the activity sessions they provide. I enjoyed the walk we did around the Onny Meadows. Jane and Mel are friendly and a good laugh. They haven't made me do things if I didn't want to. The programme has encouraged me to be more healthy. I have enjoyed the programme and would recommend it to anyone that needs help and support to become healthier.
